Jackson a Dark Horse?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jamie Herbst @ 12:01 pm

There are some interesting things going on at Brewers camp. Even though the games mean nothing, there are always interesting stories to follow. The Brewers have several in progress….

  • Zach Jackson is looking good, and has now seemingly become a possibility to make the Major League roster. Ned Yost implied yesterday that Jackson is in the running like everyone else. Unfortunately, a box score for yesterday’s 7-6 win over Kansas City doesn’t seem to exist. How is that even possible? Aren’t they practically putting up box scores for Little League games now? They can’t even get one for a Major League game, albeit a meaningless one? If they need someone to fly out there and get paid to score baseball games in Arizona so they can get a box score, I’m available. Anyway, I guess you can now throw Jackson in with Dave Bush, Rick Helling and Dana Eveland for the 5th starter’s spot. That Overbay deal looks better every day.
  • Dana Eveland seems to be losing ground in the competition. He’s had two appearances and has been shelled in both. Again, based on what Yost has said, it’s actually possible that Eveland could see AAA to start the season, with Jackson working out of the Brewer pen. Obviously, this is all relative, since I’m sure we’ll be seeing all four of the candidates pitching in a Brewer uniform in 2006.
  • Prince Fielder is already adding to his legend. Coming off elbow soreness, he jacked a 450-foot homer off Joe Mays yesterday on a 1-2 count. Fielder also said he’s looking forward to facing Houston ace Roy Oswalt. Now, Joe Mays is no Roy Oswalt, but isn’t it great to see Prince crushing major league pitching? He didn’t show much power in his short time up with the Crew in 2005, but I have a feeling he’ll be loving that new shorter rightfield fence at Miller Park.
  • Dan Kolb- bad.
  • Gabe Gross and Dave Bush- good. Did I mention that I liked the Overbay deal?

Sheets vs. Zito today- why can’t FSN be broadcasting this?
